Biochemistry & Biophysics
Biochemical and biophysical assays are the foundation for understanding protein mechanisms, validating targets, and characterizing compounds. I help clients design, optimize, and interpret assays that provide reproducible, decision-making data – whether the goal is mechanistic insight, hit validation, or de-risking a development program.

Assay Development & Optimization
Robust assays are critical to move discovery programs forward – whether for mechanistic studies, hit finding, compound profiling, or hit validation. I work with clients to design and troubleshoot assays that reliably measure protein activity, binding, or interactions.
Services include:
- Ligand binding assays – design and optimize quantitative assays for purified proteins or cell systems, including measurements of binding affinity, kinetics, and thermodynamics (techniques include label-free SPR/GCI, ITC, MST, DSF, and radiolabeled SPA/filtration)
- Functional assays – develop and troubleshoot readouts for receptor activation, enzymatic activity, protein-protein interaction, transporter flux, or ion channel electrophysiology
- Membrane protein expertise – tailor standard assay formats for challenging membrane proteins such as GPCRs, ion channels, and transporters
- CRO strategy and oversight – evaluate vendors, define scopes of work, manage projects, and independently review outsourced assay data to ensure quality and reliability

Target Assessment & Mechanistic Review
Determining whether a target is worth pursuing – and how best to approach it – is critical for efficient discovery. I provide evidence-based assessments that combine biochemical knowledge with structural and functional insights to guide decision-making.
Services include:
- Literature and database review – summarize known biology, disease links, polymorphisms, and regulation
- Mechanistic evaluation – highlight pathways, interaction partners, and biochemical rationale for druggability
- Integrated target assessment – combine existing biochemical, structural, functional, and therapeutic data to provide a unified mechanistic picture that guides portfolio and program strategy
Why Partner with Me?
With deep experience spanning assay development, mechanistic biochemistry, and biophysics, I help clients generate data they can trust. My support ranges from building assays in-house to guiding outsourced efforts, always with the goal of accelerating discovery while reducing costly dead-ends.
