About
Matt Whorton is the Founder and Principal Consultant of Isosbestic Consulting. Trained as a protein biochemist, biophysicist, and structural biologist, he has worked across diverse target classes – spanning receptors, ion channels, transporters, and enzymes – combining mechanistic biochemistry with structure determination to elucidate detailed protein mechanisms.
Earlier in his career, Matt built and led an academic research group focused on uncovering the structural and biochemical mechanisms of membrane transporters and signaling enzymes. He secured competitive federal and foundation funding, mentored scientists across various career stages, and authored and co-authored multiple peer-reviewed publications.
After transitioning to industry, Matt led assay development and target identification/validation efforts in several biotechs – building platform workflows, guiding hit-finding and follow-up characterization strategies, and managing external CRO collaborations.
As an independent consultant, he supports biotech and pharma teams developing platforms and tackling targets – ranging from routine to challenging – across diverse modalities, with services spanning protein design and engineering, biochemical and biophysical assay development, protein structure determination and analysis, binding and kinetics modeling, quantitative data analysis, and target assessment.
